Turin Mid-term Conference summary and materials

It was held on january the 23rd 2013 at the Natural Science Museum in Turin the international Conference “Take a Breath!”, mid-term event of the TAB project funded by the ERDF in the framework of the Central Europe program.

A wide and qualified group of experts and stakeholders attended this event, organized by IPLA S.p.A., focused on the air quality problems and on effective strategies for reducing its impacts.
In the morning technical sessions, tools and solutions adopted in the project by the TAB partners for contrasting air pollution were illustrated together with a series of good practices at national and european level. In this context particularly remarkable were the presentations given by scientists of the EU Joint Research Centre of Ispra, ENEA (National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development) of Rome and ARPA Piemonte (Regional Environmental Protection Agency) of Turin, on data collection, modeling and epidemiological processing. With reference to these aspects and according to the presented studies, the relationship between exposure to pollutants and related death causes appeared to be increasingly worrying.
In the second part of the conference were illustrated a series of experiences carried out by partners cities and regions that are setting up plans and adaptation measures for improving air quality. The pilot project area of Val Sangone (Italy) was also presented as an example of a territory that is presently implementing an health plan and a global environmental qualification program.
