logo-nieh-pp2The National Institute of Environmental Health is the core scientific research basis of environmental health and settlement hygiene, and the methodological centre of those health disciplines for the National Public Health and Medical Officer Service in Hungary. NIEH represents Hungary in European and International organisations and is responsible for the implementation of national programmes and actions plans in the field of health and environment. It also investigates the exposure to and health effects of factors of the natural and built environment, the nature and extent of health risks, and develops methodologies for studying those factors. It scientifically establishes those environmental health requirements by which environmental harm and health damages can be prevented, and provides recommendations for building a healthy environment. The NIEH has experienced staff and hardware and software capacity, as well as the technical infrastructure to implement the project. Two epidemiologists, a senior expert on air hygiene and another expert on risk management will lead the different activities in TAB. Further medium and junior epidemiologists will be involved. The contact person is a medical epidemiologist with 30 years experience in different fields of public health. She has been working at NIEH since 1981. Since 2002 she has been the acting deputy director of the institute. She has got an MSc in public health, she wrote her PhD in environmental epidemiology. She is delegated in relevant international ministerial conferences and organisations (4th Ministerial Conf on Health and Env., WHO) Her research field covers environmental epidemiology focusing on the health impact of air and water pollutants and climate change. She published more than 100 papers in national and international scientific journals. The NIEH can use the results of the project for further elaboration of its methodological guideance for environmental health impact assessment.
